Siri was followed by S-Voice from Samsung, Google Now from Android, Quick Voice from Android and now BlackBerry gets its own. Of course there are plenty of other voice assistants out there, but most of then don’t work as advertised.
According to CrackBerry, the latest alpha update of BlackBerry 10 has a built in Siri-like voice assistant. It turns out RIM secretly added Siri-like functionality in the latest update for the developers to play with. Voice recognition isn’t new to BlackBerry, it has been present for a long time, but was never fully utilized. It’s about time they got it out, made it better and fully integrate it in the final release of BlackBerry 10. Check out the demo video below.
Since this update is alpha many voice commands don’t work. For now, you can open webpages, ask for directions, weather, time, set reminders etc. It does have an interesting search option that looks for keywords throughout the OS as well. However, functionality like sending text messages, emails, calling etc. are still not working.
