Notification Center is a very useful feature in iOS because it takes all of your notifications and puts them into one place for you. On the other hand, it would be nice if Notification Center on the iPhone wasn’t a full-screen experience, and rather Notification Center would only be as long as the notifications and other content within.

A new jailbreak tweak called NCEnough by iOS developer Jonathan Winger Lang will do this for you. As shown above, the tweak makes it so Notification Center is only as big as the content within, or just big enough as the name implies. The fewer things in Notification Center, the shorter Notification Center will be, while the more things in Notification Center, the longer Notification Center will be.

The tweak takes not only the amount of notifications you have in Notification Center into account, but also the amount of widgets. No matter the content, the tweak will auto-size Notification Center for you.

NCEnough adds a preferences pane to the Settings application where you can enable or disable the tweak on demand, opt to show the Status Bar at the bottom of Notification Center instead of at the top, choose to interact with applications in the background while Notification Center is only taking up part of the screen, and choose to darken the background under Notification Center. In addition, you can adjust the color, alpha, and size of Notification Center as a whole.

The Status Bar at the bottom makes it easy to peek at the Status Bar while in the middle of a game without having to dedicate too much of the screen to Notification Center:

You can check out the developer's video on the tweak below:

Overall it seems like a pretty practical tweak and a good concept behind it. Most of its usefulness comes from its aesthetics, but being able to use your applications behind Notification Center is pretty cool too. You'll also find all of the customization options handy if you like the idea of tailoring the tweak to your needs. If you want to give NCEnough a try, you can find it in Cydia's BigBoss repository for just 99¢. The tweak works with iOS 5 and iOS 6 and works on any iPhone or iPod touch – it's not yet tested for the iPad.
